Equipment & Safety
- ALL skaters are required to wear a helmet. These helmets are not available for rent. A bicycle or hockey helmet are acceptable.
- Skates should be laced tight, not loose.
- Your heels should also be against the back of the boot for the best fit.
- Wrapping laces around the boot behind the heel is not good for proper fit.
- Proper fitting and expertly sharpened skates are an important element in rapid skating development.
- Make sure to have new skates sharpened prior to your first skating session.
- Rental skates are available in Figure and Hockey styles. Skates are not included in LTS registration fee.
- Please provide ample time before class to get a proper pair of skates that fit.
- First time skaters might want to try Figure skates because they lace all the way up the ankle for a tighter fit. If you choose Hockey skates remember to make them as tight as possible.
- Dress warm with layers, but allow freedom of movement. Removing layers as the body warms up is easier than warming up while on the ice.
- Gloves, mittens and/or long pants should also be worn.
- One pair of thin socks is adequate.
